GERMAN ELECTIONS 2017 LIVE: EXIT POLL PREDICTS VICTORY FOR ANGELA MERKEL AND MAJOR GAINS FOR AFD
Angela Merkel secured a decisive electoral victory on Sunday, according to exit polls, while the far right AfD made important strides in a major shift in the German political establishment.

MERKEL AND SCHULTZ
Alternative fur Deutschland (Afd) obtained 13.5% of the votes according to the exit poll, meaning that it is the first far right party to enter the German parliament for more than half a century.
It is feared on Sunday that low participation in apathetic German elections could help increase AfD's participation in the vote.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German president, warned the electorate not to let others decide the future of his country by not voting on an article for Bild Am Sonntag.
"Perhaps it has never been so clear that the elections are about the future of democracy and Europe," he wrote, amid polls showing that up to a third of the Germans were undecided.
