BENIN-FOLLOW-UP of the violent crimes and abductions witnessed in Edo state in the last month, the state's indigenes yesterday stormed Abuja, calling for the removal of the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Haliru Gwandu. Demonstrators, who stormed the National Assembly and the Police Command in Abuja, lamented that while Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, were working 24 hours a day to encourage investment in Edo State, "IG has refused to support the Edo State government in this effort." In their letter of protest addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari by the Coordinator of Concerned Citizens of the State of Edo, they noted that "while previous Police Commissioners sent to the state had done everything possible to verify the activities of criminals operating in these acquaintances points of ignition / areas to a minimum and tolerable level using available intelligence reports, we have noticed a lethargic approach and a little indifferent attitude on the part of the current State Police Commissioner, Gwandu. "Reacting to the prosecution, the State Command Police, through its spokesman, Mr. Moses Nkombe, insisted that the police were doing everything possible to ensure the release of the abduction (Ehanire and Osayomore), inducing the people of the state to be patient.
