SENATORS IMOKE, ENOH, MONARCHS BRAINSTORM ON PEACE IN C’RIVER CENTRAL DISTRICT

IKOM- ANCIENT Cross River Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, current Senator of the Central Senate, Senator John Enoh, former Commander of the United Nations Peace Corps in Sudan, Gen. Moses Obi, monarchs and other district leaders converged on the Ikom community in the state, the penultimate Saturday, to offer solutions to the incessant communal conflicts and clashes of worship in the province. They pointed out that the fact that the central senatorial district has become the hotbed of intercommunal wars, leading to loss of life, destruction of property and insecurity in the state is no longer a problem, but what has agitated healthy minds in the state was why the leaders took a long time to intervene.

It is therefore not surprising that the political leaders, traditional rulers, opinion leaders, youth groups and women in the district stormed the Ikom Council Hall for a "Peace and Security Summit" to discuss and find ways to end the incessant conflicts and worship communal clashes in the area. The summit chaired by General Obi was organized by a former Police Commissioner in the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Lawrence Alobi and was facilitated by Senator Enoh. Enoh Senator Owan Enoh in his speech stated that none of the six areas of local government in the district have not been involved in one form of conflict or the other and those limited by neighboring states have also engaged in internal clashes with them, leading to the loss of many lives and the destruction of property in recent years. "Only in the central district have we had the unpleasant experience that two communities have been completely swept away and these frequent conflicts are giving our area the image of a theater of war that should not be like this," he said. He said that war, whatever the form or for any reason, is a wrong exercise that hinders the progress and development of a place and that the people of the central district find such attractive conflicts to participate in disputes throughout the year "is evil and should be Senator Enoh said that another monster that consumes the lives of the district youth is cultism, adding: "On June 29 this year, a young man was brutally murdered in Ugep, Yakkur Local Government Area by some bloodthirsty individuals in the name of cultism. It is unfortunate that some young men have chosen the way of arms and axes instead of education to improve their future. "I made the cultism unattractive in my time-Imoke Senator Imoke, who spoke in a similar tone, said during his tenure as governor of the he made sure that every head of the political office took the oath to stay away from worship and those who already were in the act to denounce their belonging to such cults, making the cultism unattractive, thus enshrining an era of peace in the state. "When a leader is peaceful, he makes decisions that enthrone peace and the people follow his example, but if it is violent, its actions would produce violence that makes society violent and in such an environment, it can hardly experience significant progress. "Imoke added that he made sure proactive decisions were made to ensure that any community that appears to be addressing to a conflict with his neighbor, the situation was resolved quickly before the events got out of control. re, Commissioner Alobi Ex-FCT, Mr Alobi, said that there were many things that could bring conflict in a community and that the summit was aimed at addressing such flashpoints to ensure peace reigns in the district to improve the development.
