Step down as Minister of Petroleum now, group tells Buhari
ABUJA - The National President, Progressive Youth Party, YPP, Comrade Mgr Amakiri, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign as Minister of Petroleum Resources.
Amakiri, who made the call through an open letter to the President, also called for the immediate suspension of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu and the General Director of the Group of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru. Amakiri specifically stated that the investigation of the allegation and against the allegation of misappropriation and gross abuse of charge against Dr. Maikanti Baru and Dr. Ibe Kachukwu in order to determine the level of guilt in the fraudulent award of contracts by the sum of $ 26billion dollars without following due process by the former and subsequent holding probe as GMD NNPC. It should be recalled that the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, had recently accused Mr. Baru of insubordination and violation of due process in awarding contracts and appointments. He said, The ongoing denunciation of corruption and gross abuse of charge against the NNPC GMD in the person of Dr. Maikanti Baru by Hon. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachukwu is a case too numerous and like all other cases of corruption before him, such as the allegation of corruption against the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abba Kyari and the suspended Secretary of the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal will not be swept under the rug giving credit to the Senator Shehu Sani's statement that the president fights corruption with insecticide when it comes to others, but uses deodorant when it comes to members of his executive. While we have not completely renounced the President's ability to lead especially in the struggle against this threat that has continued to be an obstacle in the wheel of our nation's progress, the Young Progressives Party hereby recommends in line with best practices of as follows: "Immediate suspension and investigation of the complaint and against allegation of misappropriation and gross abuse of charges against Dr. Maikanti Baru and Dr. Ibe Kachukwu in order to determine the level of guilt in the fraudulent award of contracts to the tune of $ 26billion dollars without following due process by the former and the probe of the subsequent holding as GMD NNPC. "The immediate appointment of a substantive Minister of Oil Resources that can effectively see the day to day Ministry and that Nigerians can hold accountable for any violation of public trust. "The immediate implementation of the report presented by the presidential panel headed by Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, constituted to investigate the suspended secretary of the Federation Government, Babachir David Lawal and the Director General of the NIA, Mr. Ayo Oke. The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari must concentrate on building strong institutions that do not depend on any individual to fight against corruption or promote good governance. "" It is instructive that the above recommendations be strictly enforced for the current administration to win back trust of the majority of Nigerians who have come to see the ongoing war on corruption as selective and targeted only at anyone but the members of the APC and the Executive.
