Saraki vows to curb drug abuse through legislation

Senate Speaker Bukola Saraki pledged to address the threat of drug abuse among young people in Nigeria through legislation. Dr. Saraki took his Twitter handful @BukolaSaraki to express his concern over the wave of addiction among young people, especially in northern Nigeria. The president of the Senate promised to encourage all stakeholders to ensure that the threat of drug abuse in Nigeria is mitigated.

"I am particularly concerned about the threat of drugs in the northern part of the country, and it is time for us to recognize this problem and to address it wisely." "The team will go through the special LIB report and meet with the various stakeholders to remedy the situation, as you know, the President of the Senate is a man of his words and, in no time, this promise will be fulfilled," "he said. Recently, the National Agency for Drug Enforcement (NDLEA) in Edo arrested 67 people for allegedly trafficking in various drugs in the state. The agency's commander, Mr. Buba Wakawa, told our correspondent that the suspects, which included 47 men and 20 women, were arrested in various parts of the state between July and August. It also revealed that suspicions of illicit drugs totaling approximately 779,572 kilograms were seized during the period.
